Okay, so, you think your life is a soap opera? Try being me. I’m Sarah, the cute blonde with curly, wavy hair (and I’m the one on the right-side…the cuter of us two), and I have an identical twin, Emily. We were those twins. Finished each other’s sentences, knew what the other was thinking, shared clothes… you get the picture.
Then came Jake.
I met Jake at a coffee shop. He was cute, funny, and actually seemed to get my weird sense of humor. We hit it off, started dating, and it was… good. Really good. I was head-over-heels. And, naturally, Emily met him. She thought he was great too. Or so I thought.
Fast forward a year. A YEAR. I’m planning Jake’s birthday party. I’m stressed, but happy. I’ve got this amazing gift, I’ve organized all our friends… the works.
Then, my phone buzzes. It’s an unknown number. I answer.
“Sarah? It’s… it’s Jake.” His voice sounded weird, strained. “We need to talk.”
My stomach dropped. I thought maybe he was going to break up with me. Little did I know…
We met at that same coffee shop. He looked like he’d seen a ghost. He took a deep breath, and then the words came tumbling out.
“Sarah, I… I don’t know how to say this. But I’ve been seeing someone else.”
My world tilted. “Who? One of my friends? How could you?”
He looked down, then up at me, his eyes filled with this awful mix of guilt and… something else. “It’s… it’s Emily.”
I. Froze. My brain literally stopped working. Emily? My Emily? My twin?
Turns out, they’d “connected” at a party months ago, when I’d been sick with the flu. One thing led to another, and they’d been sneaking around ever since. A YEAR. They’d gone on dates, shared inside jokes, even… even slept together. Behind my back. My own sister. With my boyfriend.
The rest of the day is a blur. I yelled. I cried. I threw a latte (not my finest moment, but, you know). I called Emily, and… well, let’s just say our twin telepathy was not working in our favor.
The craziest part? They’d actually convinced themselves they were “in love.” Like, this epic, Romeo-and-Juliet, soulmate kind of love. While I was blissfully unaware, planning our future.
The aftermath was… messy. Jake and I are obviously over. Emily and I… we’re not speaking. My friends are divided. Some think I should forgive her (are they INSANE?), some think she’s dead to me.
And me? I’m just trying to figure out how to navigate a world where my own twin sister, the person who was supposed to be my other half, betrayed me in the most spectacularly awful way possible.
